With our updated login and identity management system powered by Jamf Connect, the process for gaining administrator access on your Mac has changed. This new workflow improves security while still giving you the flexibility to install software or perform system‑level tasks when needed.
Below is a quick guide on how to request temporary admin rights.
🔐 What Are Temporary Admin Privileges?
Temporary admin access allows you to perform tasks that normally require elevated permissions—such as installing applications, updating existing software, or adjusting certain system settings.
With Jamf Connect, these privileges are granted for a short, controlled window of time to keep your device secure while still supporting your work.
🧭 How to Request Admin Access
Follow these steps on your Mac:
-
Locate the ONU flame icon in the menu bar at the top of your screen.
This icon opens the Jamf Connect menu.
-
Select “Request Admin Privileges.”
-
Authenticate using your Mac password or Touch ID.
-
Enter the reason you need admin access.
This helps IT track and verify legitimate requests.
Once approved, you will immediately become a local administrator on your Mac for 10 minutes. During this time, you can install software, run updates, or complete any task that requires elevated permissions.
⏱️ Need More Time?
You can repeat the request process as many times as needed. Each request grants another 10‑minute window.
