Kaltura Capture Process

Create video with these prerequisites and system requirements.

  • For best results keep the videos under 15 minutes which will ease the process of uploading it into Kaltura (video.olivet.edu)

Submitting Video to an Instructor/Professor

Upload your video:

  1. Go to http://video.olivet.edu and log in with ONU credentials.
    • Note: Do not use username@olivet.edu, just use username.
  2. Click on “Add New” button, Select "Media Upload".
  3. Click "Choose a file to upload", navigate and find your video to upload, select it and click "open".
  4. The video may take a few seconds to a few minutes to upload, depending on size. Type a short description of your video, Leave publishing set to Private. Click on “Save” when done.
    • Your video may take some time to process. It is normal for the thumbnail not to appear immediately. Again this process will be faster if the video is under 15 minutes.
  5. Click on “Go to My Media”, Click on “Edit” , Click the “Collaboration” Tab.
  6. Where it says "User Name or ID" add the instructor by typing either their first name, last name or username. Wait for the system to find them, when it does it will appear below the field. Click their name.
    • Note: If Kaltura cannot find your instructor, contact your instructor.
  7. After clicking their name, check the box for “Co-Editor”. Click on “Add”, In the main page you should then see your teachers name at the bottom of the screen added as a co-editor.

Share the Link:

  1. Click on your username menu and choose "My Media", click on the video thumbnail, click on "Share".
  2. Copy the "Link to Media Page" URL and submit the hyperlink to the assignment in Canvas and your instructor will be able to see the video when he/she clicks on that hyperlink.

Submitting Video to Classmates

Upload your video:

  1. Go to http://video.olivet.edu and log in with ONU credentials.
    • Note: Do not use username@olivet.edu, just use username.
  2. Click on “Add New” button, Select "Media Upload".
  3. Click "Choose a file to upload", navigate and find your video to upload, select it and click "open".
  4. The video may take a few seconds to a few minutes to upload, depending on size. Type a short description of your video, Leave publishing set to Private. Click on “Save” when done.
    • Your video may take some time to process. It is normal for the thumbnail not to appear immediately. Again this process will be faster if the video is under 15 minutes.

Embed your video:

  1. Access the Editor: Navigate to the Canvas page, assignment, discussion, or quiz where you want to place the videio, and click Edit (or Repy in discussions).
  2. Open Kaltura: In the Rick Content Editor toolbar, click the Embed Kaltura Media icon. This often looks like a colorful starbust or rainbow. If you do not see it, click the Apps (plug) icon and search for "Kaltura" or "Embed Kaltura Media".
  3. Select Your Media: The My Media window will pop up, displaying all the videos you have previously uploaded or created.
    • To use an existing video: Find your video and click the Embed button on the right.
    • To customize settings: Click the gear icon or Customize next to the video to adjust the player size or download options before embedding.
    • To upload a new video: Click + Add New to upload a file from your device or record a new video via Express Capture before embedding.
  4. Finalize: Once the video is inserted into your text box, it will appear as a video player or a placeholder. Scroll to the bottom and click Save (or Post Reply) to finalize your changes.
